Heliconias, kapok trees, and mosses are among the nearly 100 plant species in Gallineral Natural Park in San Gil (20 minutes south of Barichara). This 10-acre area is a kind of island formed by two arms of the Curití river emptying into the Fonce river. There is a stone monument in tribute to Jorge Villamil, author of the song “Si pasas por San Gil” (“If you go through San Gil”).
