Baranoa Township, 14 miles south of Barranquilla, is famous for the festivities that take place there. One is the Plum Festival, which takes place every March in the village of Campeche and during which cakes, juices, jams, and marmalades are made from this fruit. Other festivals are dedicated to the pigeon pea (a legume) and chicharrón (roasted pork skin).
