Some of the heroes of Colombia’s Independence, such as Antonio Nariño, Francisco de Paula Santander, and Antonio Ricaurte all studied at St. Bartholomew University (Colegio Mayor de San Bartolomé). This institution, located in the Plaza de Bolívar, was founded by the Church of the Society of Jesus on September 27th, 1604. A bust of the patriot Camilo Torres stands in the building's main entrance.
