The Galeras volcano can be seen from Pasto, as well as the municipalities of Nariño, La Florida, Sandoná, Consacá, and Yacuanquer, among others, all of which lie on its lower slopes. Here you can see about 100 species of birds such as wrens, owls, eagles, and 16 varieties of hummingbirds. There are 125 streams, several rivers, and four lakes that supply water to 500,000 people near the Galeras.
