One of the most beloved Catholic churches in Barranquilla is the María Reina Metropolitan Cathedral. The church, which was visited by Pope John Paul II on July 7, 1986, is known for its stained glass windows and for housing the “Cristo Liberador Latinoamericano,” a 16-ton sculpture made by Rodrigo Arenas Betancourt.
