COLOMBIA
This Film Festival is an annual event organized by the Fundación Cine Posible, set in a colonial atmosphere that provides a stage for independent cinema with productions that have no limitations regarding theme, duration, or original language, as long as they are subtitled in Spanish.
"Handmade," as the slogan of its fifth edition states, is an international platform for artisan cinema that, beyond a big budget, aims to promote resourceful, sincere cinema with great storytelling and attention to visuals.
With over 200 titles, 50 guests, 32 national and 18 international, totaling more than 80 hours of audiovisual projection, short films, documentaries, and feature films will be presented, including samples from Argentina, Spain, Belgium, France, Mexico, Brazil, the United States, Japan, Denmark, the Netherlands, Chile, and Uruguay as part of this Film Festival.
The inaugural film will be Aniceto, by Fuad Jorge Jury, better known as Leonardo Favio, a renowned producer, film director, screenwriter, composer, singer, and actor born in Mendoza, Argentina.
In Villa de Leyva, a magical municipality for cultural and tourist encounters, the Festival will offer spaces to generate reflection, dialogues, academic events, interventions, and cinema in all its glory in closed venues, such as the Municipal Theater and the Quintero Room.
The outdoor screening areas are an iconic cultural opening that always characterizes the Festival; this year you will be able to appreciate "Cinema on 35 Bricks," projections on the white walls of the municipality, "Cinema in the Park," children’s cinema in El Carmen Park, and "Cinema in the Plaza," movie nights under the sky of Villa de Leyva's Plaza, in a very family-friendly and fun atmosphere.
"A festival that makes a difference by offering grounded cinema," stated María Angélica Tovar, Director of the International Villa de Leyva Festival, "because it is about sensible cinema that promotes frank and innovative proposals in a competitive industry that always seeks creative and fresh nuances."
That’s why this year, in parallel to the Film Festival, the "Festivalito" has been created, an inclusive space for children from the countryside and the city that, in a playful and team-working environment, provides a place for entertainment and childhood education through the wonderful and imaginative world of cinema.
Among the workshops offered are: Possible Cinema, Characters, Theater, Screenwriting, Art, Animation, Makeup, Photography, Improvisation, Music, and Expression.
This Film Festival, at just 5 years old, has already received various recognitions, including: Ministry of Culture Award 2008 for National Audiovisual Plan / Audience Development, Ministry of Culture Grant 2009, Concerted Event, Ministry of Culture Award 2009 for National Audiovisual Plan / Audience Development, Special Recognition OEI 2009 for Experience in Artistic, Cultural, and Citizen Education, and Ministry of Culture Award 2011 for National Audiovisual Plan. We hope there will be many more.
