Located 94 km west of Tunja, Chiquinquirá —which declared itself free from colonial rule on September 1, 1810— serves as a connecting point between Bogotá and the country’s central region with Bucaramanga and the Caribbean coast. In this municipality of Boyacá, where the average temperature is 12°C, there is great devotion to the Virgin of Chiquinquirá, whose image is housed in the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary.
