We develop rural touristic plans in La Macarena's Serrania, where the 5-color river is located. Our territory is filled with natural sceneries with unique beauty, and our people have human warmth and enthusiasm to welcome visitors from all over the world to show them the wonders we have and who we are.
La Macarena
The Serrania de la Macarena is one of the most beautiful natural jewels in Colombia. It is located between the Andes, Amazon, and Orinoco; therefore, the Serrania is a mixture of these three ecosystems in one place. Here, all the ecosystems come together as a single biological corridor, unique in flora as well as in wildlife biodiversity. Landscaping show amazing colors and corners, like one of the most prominent: Caño Cristales, where 5 colors create a scenery whose images have gone around the world.
In the zone, a community union has been built, which, that for the last 10 years, has routed its efforts towards tourism. Previously, this area was hit by war, coca crops, and the cattle industry. Today, several rural farmers' communities have come together, because we have felt the need to transform our economical and social dynamics. We want supportive and conscious tourism to arrive at our houses, allowing us an abundant life, and taking care of nature. In previous years, due to the culture and traditions from our parents, who moved to this area in the 70s, we have been logging the jungle trees for cattle activities. Today we feel this has to stop, and tourism is one of the tools we think can work for conservation and peace processes, based on a community and participatory touristic scheme, where communities are the most benefitted.
Due to all this, when you visit the "Macarena de Colores" project, you will meet some of the most beautiful and sublime natural spots in Colombia, like the famous Caño Cristales, the Stillness Lagoon, the Angosturas torrent, the petroglyphs made thousands of years ago by the Guayabero indigenous tribe, the City of Stone´s rocky formations, or the colorful streams like Aguas Claras or Color´s torrent. All these places are filled with magic and nature connection.
In our community, a union of 5 counties, we offer rural farmers accommodation, rural gastronomy, hikes in our farms and at the Macarena or Tinigua Natural National Parks. You can also enjoy flora and wildlife watching, horseback riding, birdwatching, canoeing at the Stillness Lagoon, and navigations at the Guayabero River.
Our enterprise has 4 rural accommodation sites from the farmers' community: The Raudal ecolodge, Don Jorge and Doña Meri´s House, Don Antonio and Doña Olga´s House, and Don Miler and Doña Rosalvina´s House. All of them are in the countryside, surrounded by nature and biodiversity.
You can visit us whenever you want since we can welcome you all year round. We have plans from 2 to 4 nights with several routes made to have an unforgettable experience for everybody: kids, couples, friends, and families. Welcome!
Thanks to this project the communities have created strategies to build community jobs related to ecotourism and rural tourism. By using these strategies, income has been produced for the community, becoming a great sustainability model for other communities in the region. Under this purpose, it has been achieved the conservation of more than 500 hc of native forest, which used to be logged for the community income.
