YARUMO BLANCO COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION Luxuriant nature and coffee landscapes
Colombia is the country with the greatest diversity of birds on the planet with more than 1900 species. The complete topography of the Coffee Cultural Landscape is home to various species of mountain ranges and inter-Andean valleys, where the specialty is the rich mountain bird fauna, famous for its hummingbirds, tangaras pavas, the tapir and the spectacled bear.
In life and biodiversity sanctuaries such as the Otun Quimbaya Fauna and Flora Sanctuary, in Risaralda, walk in company with the people of the Yarumo Blanco Community Association through paths that cross misty forests and be amazed by the appearance of beautiful birds and learn how this fragile ecosystem is conserved.
The Yarumo Blanco Community Association is in charge of managing the ecotourism services of the Otún Quimbaya Fauna and Flora Sanctuary, through the community tourism program of National Natural Parks. As a result of Yarumo Blanco's management, they have received the Top 100 green destinations recognition, in 2014, 2016, 2017 and 2018.
Since the creation of the community association in 2008 they have established themselves as a national benchmark, which is why they have received the national award for sustainable tourism and recently the international certification in community tourism, awarded by tourcert.
Economic drift. Without counting taxes, today, that means that on each tour, we redistribute a little more than 60% of the payment made by our tourists. This payment, especially in author tours, stays with local actors, such as guides, restaurants, hotels, artisans, and transporters.
Social inclusion. At Nature Trips Colombia, we measure the number of people who are part of the service co-production on each tour. This has given us an average of 3.36 jobs per tourist. When tours are private, which represent the majority of our sales, that indicator increases.
