Providence and the small island of Santa Catalina are connected by Lover´s Bridge, a floating wooden structure whose railings are painted in colors that allow the passage of boats through a narrow tunnel. The channel over which the bridge is built was dredged by pirates in the seventeenth century to protect both islands from invaders. Today it is the scene of romantic walks.
