Colombia is one of the favorite destinations for rafting and canoeing enthusiasts. The country has numerous rivers throughout its territory, but there are three prime areas where you can practice these sports.

The first is the Río Negro, about two hours from Bogotá, in the municipality of Tobia, Cundinamarca. This is a beginner-friendly destination and is approximately 6 kilometers long.

The second area for rafting is the department of Santander, particularly the Fonce and Suárez rivers, near San Gil. These courses range from 10 to 16 kilometers. The Fonce River is primarily visited by beginners. Meanwhile, the Suárez River has a flow with large waves similar to those of the ocean, which is ideal if you want an extra dose of adrenaline.

Finally, there is the Río Magdalena, which runs through the country from the department of Huila to the Atlantic. The river's length allows both novice and experienced athletes to enjoy an extreme vacation.

Because the Andes mountain range crosses Colombian geography, the country is an ideal setting for hiking in the mountains or ascending and descending rocky lines.

If you love high-altitude trekking, you can practice this sport on mountains up to 5,000 meters high. The main destinations, according to the Division of Parks of the Ministry of Environment, are the Sierra Nevada of Santa Marta, and the national parks of Nevado del Huila, Puracé, El Cocuy, and the National Natural Park of the Nevados.

If you prefer rock climbing, you can visit Suesca, a municipality located about an hour's drive from Bogotá, or Chicoral, in Tolima.
