COLOMBIA
Bogotá is the capital of Colombia and is located in the center of the country on an extensive plain in the Andes Mountains at 2,600 meters above sea level. It has a population of nearly eight million inhabitants from all corners of the world. It is a city as diverse as the country itself, it is the most important cultural center of Colombia and a place with hundreds of sites to explore and activities to do.
According to the latest ranking published by the National Association of Congresses and Conventions – ICCA of countries and cities with the highest number of events worldwide, Bogotá has become the first city in the country with the most events held, improving its position in Latin America from 9th to 6th, and ranking among the top 50 cities in the world at 47th place, rising 32 spots in the global ranking in just one year.
Bogotá is a city in transformation; urban renewal is visible in all sectors: the mass transportation system Transmilenio has changed the face of the main roads of the capital, new office buildings, hotels, shopping centers, and housing, as well as the construction and improvement of parks and libraries, were the reasons it received the Golden Lion Award in 2006 from the Venice Biennale for its urban renewal, and for the New York Times to name it one of the 31 destinations to visit in 2010.
It will provide solid tools for its international positioning, highlighting the key attributes that differentiate it from other cities and facilitating competitiveness to attract a greater number of tourists, investment, business, talent, and opportunities for Bogotá.
The Lonely Planet magazine from Argentina in its article titled “10 Easy Trips” highlights Bogotá as an example to follow in ecology and the environment. The note emphasizes that Bogotá has 107 square meters of green space per person, “the highest figure among medium-population cities, and the greatest biodiversity in the world per square kilometer”.
