The view of a pond of green water in the crater of the Azufral volcano, 2.5 miles above sea level, fascinates those who come to this point of Nariño near Túquerres. In order to see the volcano, visitors have to walk three miles from the Chaitan (meaning “arm of fire” in Quechua) cabin. Seventy-two streams and creeks are born in these foothills, with 467 species of flora and 10 species of fauna recorded by biologists.
