The Casa del Libro Total is a cultural center where chronicles, anecdotes, and stories about the history of Bucaramanga, Santander, are preserved. Discover what it has to offer.

In the center of the city of Bucaramanga and just a few minutes' walk from the Catedral de La Sagrada Familia is the Casa del Libro Total. A colonial house that was restored to become a cultural and technology center.

Here, the free digital library “El Libro Total” was also created, a digital repository with more than 60,000 titles in various categories such as images, literature, and music. An initiative that supports the ongoing mission of Casa del Libro Total: recovering the Cultural Heritage of the Spanish-speaking community.

Additionally, the restoration of this more than 200-year-old colonial house led to the development of its interior to provide visitors with a cultural center for hosting musical events, poetry readings, literature, and art. Other events organized here include discussions and exhibitions, all with free entry.

The Casa del Libro Total is one of many cultural centers in the city. Other similar places you can find in Bucaramanga include Casa Mario Acevedo and the Palacio de la Gobernación, among others.

From the Casa del Libro to El Libro Total

The restructuring of Casa del Libro Total is not only in response to the architectural needs of the building but also the creation of the digital library ‘El Libro Total’. The extensive catalog includes classic works of universal literature, such as Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy in various languages. Similarly, you can find music and iconography that have inspired these works, as well as dictionaries on a multitude of topics.

Additionally, if you don’t wish to read the works directly from the computer or would like to practice languages, you can choose to listen to them in the language of your preference, depending on the available options. Without a doubt, an excellent opportunity to take a virtual tour of local and universal culture.

A Plan Near Casa del Libro Total

The Casa del Libro Total is located at the corner of the García Rovira park, one of the more than 200 parks in Bucaramanga. This particular one has been renovated three times, and while walking through it, you can appreciate its pedestrian paths framed by a classic Spanish plaza design that surrounds the bronze sculpture created in the workshops of Swiss artist Xabier Arnold in Hamburg.

You can also walk through the park and enjoy the pleasant climate of the city, while appreciating the gardens that hold the tall palm trees reaching toward the sky.

About ‘The Beautiful City’ and Santander

Bucaramanga, also known as ‘The Beautiful City’ or ‘The City of Parks,’ is the capital of the Santander region and is located in the north of Colombia. A region characterized by its fantastic offer of extreme sports and the beauty of its heritage towns like: Barichara, Socorro, and San Juan de Girón.

Some of the activities we recommend in the region are:

  • Do extreme sports in San Gil. You can do rafting, canyoning, paragliding, and visit caves, among other activities.

  • Enjoy ecotourism in the El Gallineral Natural Park and appreciate the 1,867 trees called “gallineros” whose branches are covered in moss that forms elegant curtains.

  • Enjoy different glamping options and, along the way, spot wildlife and flora, especially birds.

We hope that when you visit Bucaramanga, you enjoy the Casa del Libro Total and the various activities you’ll find in the region. We look forward to seeing you!
