Attractions and Experiences

Girón

Do you feel immersed in an oasis of tranquility? Welcome to Girón! Although it is surrounded by the modernity, hustle, and urban growth of Bucaramanga, this colonial town has managed to maintain its calm and timeless atmosphere. There’s nothing better than strolling through its cobblestone streets and admiring the white houses that line them. You’ll also find beautiful squares with churches that have changed little since the colonial era, keeping all their charm.

Paragliding

South of the city, around the Mesa de Ruitoque, the best thermal winds in Colombia gather for paragliding. There is a wide variety of tandem flights offering spectacular views of Bucaramanga and the surrounding mountains. You can also find multi-day courses for those who wish to learn and fly on their own.

Casa de Bolívar

This colonial adobe mansion was meticulously restored to conceal the three centuries of history it carries. It was once the home of the hero of South American liberation, Simón Bolívar, and today houses an interesting museum dedicated to the pre-Hispanic, colonial, and republican history of the region. The exhibitions are divided into themed rooms and include fascinating artifacts from the Guane indigenous group, who once inhabited what is now the department of Santander.

Eloy Valenzuela Botanical Garden

Although not very large, this botanical garden is well maintained and has much to offer: 3,500 plant species, including an impressive variety of orchids, heliconias, and palm trees. You’ll also find many adorable creatures that delight younger visitors, such as squirrels, butterflies, iguanas, and turtles.

Cerro del Santísimo

Located on a wooded hill in Floridablanca, this viewpoint and park features a nearly 40-meter-tall statue of Christ and offers wonderful views of the city.

The best time to go is during the spectacular sunsets. The summit has restaurants for those who wish to stay longer and enjoy the city lights in all their nighttime splendor. A winding path leads up to the statue, but the most elegant way to reach it is by taking the cable car that glides over the treetops along its 1.4-kilometer route.
