The Galeras volcano can be seen from Pasto, a city that rests on its slopes just like the municipalities of Narino, La Florida, Sandoná, Consacá, Yacuanquer, and Tangua. There, you can find a variety of fauna and flora typical of the páramo ecosystems, as well as high-Andean and Andean forests. Around Galeras, there is a hydrographic star that gives rise to about 125 streams, several rivers, and four lagoons (Negra, Verde, Telpis, and Mejía), which supply water to the populations surrounding the Parque Nacional Natural where the volcano is located.
