Tourists enjoy ecotourism activities in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta.

Santa Marta is located in the Colombian Caribbean, and is also known as 'The Pearl of America' for its crystal-clear waters, emerald green mountains, and pristine beaches. This and more make it is an ideal destination when it comes to enjoying sports or adventure activities like trekking in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, the highest coastal mountain in the world.

This adventure lasts three to six days, during which you’ll be able to visit places such as the village of Minca, a charming town that shows you the coffee culture of the region. You’ll also pass through the viewpoint of Cerro Kennedy, the highest point of the journey at an altitude of 3,100 m.a.s.l. Finally, you’ll arrive at Ciudad Perdida, the cradle of the Tayrona indigenous community which today is home to the KoguiArhuacoWiwa, and Kankuamo ethnic groups. These native groups make sure to preserve this paradise, which has been declared by UNESCO as a Biosphere Reserve and World Heritage Site.

Tourism on two-wheels, have the best experience while training

There are two ways to experience this type of tourism in the country. Each promises great immersive experiences both in nature and in remote places of the territory due to the ease of these means of transport.

If you are a biker at heart, there are several routes you can take to enjoy adventure activities in Colombia. Starting from Bogotá, you can easily reach one of the most ‘instagrammable’ places in the country: The Tatacoa Desert. If you have more experience riding, you can even go to Medellín or take the “route of the sun” which will take you across the beaches of the Colombian Caribbean.

The Tatacoa Desert is the perfect place for adventure tourism in Colombia.

On the other hand, if cycling is your thing, Caldas is your region. We invite you to carry out one of the most demanding cyclist challenges: Alto de Letras. It is the longest ascent in the world, which for 50 miles will keep you in position until you reach 3,600 m.a.s.l. On tour, you’ll go through almost all of the climates that Colombia has since it starts from San Sebastián de Mariquita at 495 meters above sea level, near the Magdalena River.

Heritage destinations, fall in love with the colonial charm of Mompóx

Much of the charm of the destinations that are on the route of Colombian heritage towns lies in its cultural and historical richness and in the charm of its colonial architecture. As such, when you decide to travel to our country, we recommend that you include Santa Cruz de Mompox in your trip itinerary.

If luxury travel is your thing, this is an excellent destination as you can enjoy the Jazz Festival in Mompox, an event where music and gastronomy are the main attraction. Other activities that we recommend include visiting the Santa Bárbara Church (one of the most 'instagrammable' places for your photos) and passing through the Rosario de Mompox Cemetery, which together with Barichara are considered major works of art in the country. Other stops to consider include the Church of the Immaculate Conception and the market square.

You can also visit the historic port of Magangué and fall in love with the colorful sunset on a ferry ride across the Magdalena River.

Enjoy the unforgettable experience of flying over Chiribiquete

Exploring some of the protected areas of the country and the world is a privilege that you have to experience at least once in your life. Therefore, the Serranía de Chiribiquete National Natural Park should be part of your trip itinerary.

It is about 4,268,095 hectares of extensive and lush vegetation interrupted by an immense rocky plateau with the largest number of pictograms painted by indigenous people located in the Colombian Amazon region. This extensive protected area is known as "the greatest natural wonder of Colombia" and is included in UNESCO’s list as a Natural and Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

To arrive at this wonderful destination, you can take a plane on one of the 4 weekly flights that some tour operators have from the El Dorado airport in Bogotá, a flight that lasts 1 hour and 20 minutes.

Seek mindfulness tourism in San Andrés and Providencia

Considering a list of experiences to live in Colombia, you cannot miss complete immersion in the sea. One good reason involves the two oceans that surround the territory-- the Caribbean Sea in the north and the Pacific in the west. If your travel includes mindfulness tourism, perhaps supporting the noble work of reforesting the third largest coral barrier in the world in Providencia is your best choice.

In the insular zone of the Colombian Caribbean, known for being one of the most beautiful natural reserves in the world, you will find an island that, together with Santa Catalina, are known as ‘The hidden treasure of the western Caribbean’. This is an ideal place to dive due to the beautiful colors that shine through its crystal clear waters, its warm temperature, and favorably low current. On this underwater journey, you’ll be able to appreciate the vibrant colors of the coral reefs the great biodiversity of fauna such as giant tortoises, manta rays, and sharks, among others.

Marvel at the journey of the humpback whales in the Colombian Pacific

Ecotourism in Colombia is known for its wide range of activities throughout each territory. Among these, one of the most desired by tourists is the sighting of humpback whales in one of the most biodiverse regions in the world: Nuquí.

Located in the country’s western Colombian Pacific region, you’ll find a wonderful earthly paradise that’s home to a marine ecosystem which includes waterfalls of freshwater, hot springs, and extensive virgin beaches. You’ll also find a lush vegetative jungle, which is home to the largest amount of fauna in the world. This is the warm setting chosen each year by the humpback whales that come from Antarctica and Chile to mate and give birth to their young. A spectacle of nature that you can only experience here.

In the same way, this region is also perfect for those who love adventure activities in Colombia, since these beaches are also ideal for ecological walks, navigating rivers and mangroves, and surfing the waves.

Go birdwatching in the Coffee Cultural Landscape

When you travel to our country, you know you’re in a place where you can experience the pinnacle of ecotourism: The Coffee Cultural Landscape. Formed by the regions of Risaralda, Caldas, Quindío, and Valle del Cauca, this place is not only recognized for cultivating one of the best coffees in the world, but also for having been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO since 2011.

There are about 27,476 hectares of lush green mountains for you to appreciate a great sample of the country’s biodiversity, which today has the title of being the first in the world in number of bird species with a figure to date of 1,815 individual breeds. You can appreciate many of these in the middle of this wonderful landscape, such as: the Monteañero Toropisco, the Esmeralda Tucancito, the Yellow-eared Parrot and numerous species of hummingbirds, among others.

While here, you can also carry out some rural tourism activities in the coffee farms to understand the process of cultivation, selection, and roasting to produce a cup of premium Colombian coffee.
